• According to Southeastern Police, a tailgating incident yielded injuries in Southeastern’s Friendship Circle on Saturday at approximately 1:30 PM. During the tailgate, an individual lost control of a golf cart, resulting in five injuries and two people being transported to North Oaks Hospital. UPD is continuing to investigate the crash.
• The Hammond Police Department is investigating a theft at BJ’s Fine Jewelry and Pawn. On September 18, 2023, at approximately 6:00pm, two black females entered and asked for assistance viewing gold chains displayed for sale. This conversation allowed one suspect to distract the employees while the other concealed a chain. Then, both suspects exited and presumably fled in an unknown vehicle. The stolen chain is a Cuban link gold chain valued at $5,386 with embedded diamonds. • DOTD will close a portion of Randall Road by the Calvary Christian Center property to replace the bridge starting Monday, September 25. Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said the project will take several months. However, it could be open as soon as the end of the year if weather conditions cooperate. The bridge replacement is estimated to cost $1.35 million. • Tickets for the HRAC Brews Arts Fest are now on sale! This annual outdoor event will feature local and regional breweries sharing their unique brews with patrons in the heart of Downtown Hammond. The festival takes place at the Morrison Park Alleyway off the 100 Block North Cypress on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. VIP attendees may partake in a special happy hour from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. Advanced tickets are currently priced at $30 for HRAC members and $35 for non-members. Ticket prices increase to $45 on the day of the event. A limited number of VIP tickets will be sold at $50 for members and $60 for non-members. All VIP tickets will be $70 at the door if available. Tickets can be purchased through HRAC’s website at hammondarts.org or during regular gallery hours of noon-6:00pm, Wednesday through Friday, at HRAC.
• The LSU AgCenter Hammond Research Station is hosting its third annual Fall Garden Day and Plant Sale on Saturday, October 7, from 7:30am to 1:00pm at the Hammond Research Station on Old Covington Highway. This free, family-friendly event is open to the public. Hundreds of plants, such as Louisiana Super Plants, trees, shrubs, and perennials, will be available for sale. Educational sessions on plant selection, turfgrass selection, fire ant management, berry gardening, and sustainable landscaping will be provided by LSU AgCenter specialists. Tangipahoa Master Gardeners will provide fun children’s activities, a garden demo, and a plant swap. The Hammond High School Boosters Club will also offer baked goods for sale.
