This week saw the end of all of the regular season play for the Southland Conference and Southeastern Louisiana University. Three spring sports continued play over the last week, including baseball, softball and track & field.

As expected, after winning a second straight Southland Conference championship, the Southeastern Lion baseball team collected a few postseason awards from the eleven team, which were given out on Wednesday.

With the end of the spring semester, most NCAA sports are at or near the end of their regular seasons, and some are retooling for next season. One squad reloading for the 2627 year is the Lady Lion basketball team, who added two new players for next year on Monday.

The first steps to a return trip to the NCAA Regionals were taken on Thursday when the Southeastern Lady Lion softball team thumped Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 8-0 in a contest delayed by area showers.

Lady Wave softball advanced to the quarterfinals last week to play against John Curtis after defeating Dominican in the second round, but John Curtis had too much firepower, an they ended Ponchatoula’s season, winning 9-3 on their home field.

The Southland Conference postseason pictures for baseball and softball became much clearer over the weekend. Southeastern Louisiana University sits at the top of both, while the beach volleyball season concluded.

The week in Southeastern athletics saw the end of the season for the Lady Lion tennis team, who fell 4-1 to top seed Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament. The doubles tandem of Taisia Bolsova and Aitana Darder took the #2, 6-4.
