The Tulane Green Wave defeated the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 21-3 in college football action at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg on Saturday afternoon.
The Tulane offense was guided by backup quarterback Kai Horton. Starting quarterback Michael Pratt is still out with a leg injury he suffered in Tulane’s first game of the season against the South Alabama Jaguars. Horton completed 12-of-19 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Horton also ran for another touchdown. Tulane had 314 yards of total offense in the game. Southern Miss had 202 yards of offense.
Tulane has an overall record of 2-1 at this point in the season.
“I thought it was a great complimentary football game,” said Tulane head coach, Willie Fritz. “Sometimes we needed special teams to make a play. We did some good things in the kicking game. Obviously, the defense just played lights out, what a performance. Coach Wood and the defensive staff put together a tremendous game plan. We tackled really well. We didn’t let people get behind us.”
Here are a few of Southern Miss head coach Will Hall’s comments about the game: “Disappointing afternoon. Just didn’t make a whole lot of plays, specifically offensively. I’m disappointed in how we executed. We’re better than we played today. They (Tulane) just executed better than we did today.”
Most college football stadiums have a nickname. As Tulane fans know, the nickname for Tulane’s football stadium is The Ocean. The nickname for M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg is The Rock.
