The Green Wave Football Team responded with a massive game against St. Thomas Aquinas, winning in blowout fashion 49-6, after a close loss to Dutchtown. The Wave had a total of 485 yards on offense. The scoring started early for the Green Wave with a 6-yard rushing touchdown by Bishop Davis to make it 7-0 in the 1st quarter. St. Thomas answered back on their following drive with a 43-yard touchdown run by Kendrell Perry, but they missed the extra point. This brought the score to 7-6 with 6:11 left in the 1st quarter. Jace Jackson scored a 5-yard rushing touchdown in the Wave’s next drive to make it 146. The Green Wave started the 2nd quarter off strong with a 42-yard reception by Cory Jackson to set up 1st and goal at the 1-yard line. Jace Jackson ran it in for his 2nd touchdown, extending the lead to 21-6. Just before the end of the half, Andrew Cangelosi got a touchdown of his own, giving the Green Wave a commanding 28-6 lead at halftime. Ponchatoula got an interception to begin the second half and set up a 3-yard rushing touchdown for Bishop Davis, his 2nd of the game. 35-6 Green Wave. On the next drive, Davis had his best play of the game, splitting through the Falcons’ defense on the first play and taking it to the house for 75 yards to extend the lead even more, 42-7. Ponchatoula would add another touchdown in the 4th quarter with a fumble recovery from Antonio Traxler to secure the win 49-6. Bishop Davis finished 5-8 with 123 passing yards and 43 carries for 362 yards and three touchdowns. Jace Jackson finished with seven carries for 53 yards and two touchdowns. Cory Jackson had his best game of the season yet, with four catches for 113 yards. The Green Wave will play Covington next on Friday at 7:00pm in The Swamp.
The Lady Wave Volleyball Team played a great game against Woodlawn last week. The girls swept, 3-0. The Lady Wave returned home to play Northlake Christian but got swept, losing 3-0. The Lady Wave now sits at 6-6 on the season. This week, the girls play St. Scholastica at home on Tuesday, Central at home on Thursday, and travel to Ruston for a weekend tournament.
In college football last weekend, Southeastern suffered its third consecutive loss after being defeated by Eastern Washington, 40-29. The Lions will travel back home this weekend for their home opener against Houston Christian to start conference play. That game will be Saturday at 6pm on ESPN+. Tulane started conference play strongly with a 21-3 defensive win at Southern Miss. The Green Wave will return to New Orleans this Saturday to play Nicholls at 6pm on ESPN+. LSU played a fantastic game to start SEC play in Starkville against Mississippi State. The Tigers would win in dominating fashion 41-14, highlighted by breakout games from Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers. Daniels played almost perfectly, going 30-34 passing with 361 yards and two touchdowns. Daniels also had 64 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Nabers had one of the best receiving games in LSU history, catching thirteen passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Nabers cleared the previous record of 229 yards by Justin Jefferson in 2019 against Vanderbilt. The Bayou Bengals return home this Saturday to play Arkansas at Tiger Stadium.
