In the words of Kentwood’s late Mr. Jerry Simmons, “Defense wins championships, offense puts fans in the stands.” That quote sums up the first-round playoff game for the Kangaroos.
Kentwood won the toss and deferred, giving St. Mary’s offense the ball to start the game. On St. Mary’s first drive, Kentwood’s defense forced a fumble. J. Campbell, #1 for the Roos, scooped up the ball and ran it in for the first touchdown of the match. J. Burton ran in the two-point conversion, putting Kentwood up 8-0 early in the first quarter.
St. Mary’s second drive started out well for the Tigers until the quarterback was intercepted by J. Brown, Jr., setting the Roos up nicely on the Tigers’ 25-yard line. J. Burton capitalized on the boon with the Roos’ second touchdown, followed by another two-point conversion, putting the Roos up 16-0 with 9:49 in the 1st quarter.
