James “Jim” Louis Tryniecki, a resident of Amite, Louisiana passed away at 3:37am on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in Alexandria, surrounded by his loving daughters and family. Born on May 16, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was 80 years old. Jim was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother and faithful friend.
His memory will be cherished by his daughters: Melissa Bordelon and husband Nic of Hammond, Debbie Gallagher and husband Mike of Alexandria, and Angela King and husband Tom of Mandeville. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Kelsey (Jake) Kojeski, James Bryce Bordelon, Karley (Nick) Fontenot of Hammond; Maddie Gallagher, Kaitlyn “KK” Gallagher, and Shawn Gallagher of Alexandria; Alex Dumestre, Adam Dumestre, and Hunter King of Mandeville.
He was blessed with a great-granddaughter, Serena Fontenot; sisters, Val Lambert (Randy), Jan Ledet (Julian); and brother-in-law, Vince LaBarbera were his closest family, and their love meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda Ritchie Tryniecki; parents, Joe and Ida Tryniecki of Amite; in-laws, Robert Virgil and Nita Ritchie of Bogalusa; sister, Sara Ann LaBarbera of Amite; and sister-in-law, Juanita Trout of Red Deer, Canada.
Jim’s faith in Jesus and his journey to heaven were always his top priorities. He was happiest when surrounded by his wife, his “girls,” and grandchildren. Jim devoted his professional life to the countless students he taught as an Associate Professor of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at Southeastern Louisiana University for 35 years. He earned his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s in Education from Southeastern Louisiana University and pursued doctoral studies at Louisiana State University.
A member of St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Helena Council 10911. An avid runner, nicknamed “The Polish Racer,” he was often seen outpacing his Southeastern students during his runs and enjoyed participating in numerous road races across the state, from 5Ks to marathons.
A HAM radio operator (K5WGO), he was also a skilled archer, often using his expertise to shoot wires into trees for his radio tower setup. A talented craftsman and creative problem solver, “PawPaw Jim” could fix anything! He cherished the time spent with friends who shared these hobbies.

Services will be held on Monday, March 31, at St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite. The Holy Rosary will begin at 8:10am, followed by visitation from 8:30 to 11:30am, with Mass at 12:00pm. Internment will take place at St. Dominic Cemetery in Husser.

With hearts full of both sorrow and gratitude, we announce the home going of Norma Lee Adams Toney, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend who was a beacon of unwavering faith, on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born Thursday, September 14, 1933, to Howard and Viola Adams, Norma Lee lived a life deeply rooted in her devotion to her Savior. Her faith was not merely an observance, but the very essence of her being, guiding her every action and interaction. She found solace and strength in her relationship with God, and her unwavering belief served as an inspiration to all who knew her.
As a cornerstone of her community, Norma Lee possessed a sassy yet gentle spirit with a kind servant heart, always ready with a comforting word, a helping hand or a warm meal. Her home was a sanctuary, filled with the warmth of her love and the aroma of almond cakes, chocolate pies, and the favorite dish of whomever she was feeding. She loved and cherished her family above all else. The love for her children, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren as well as all those that found refuge within their home through the years was truly a reflection of the love of Jesus.
Her life was a testament to the power of prayer and the importance of living a life of service. She was a founding member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and remained an active member her entire life. Her dedication to her faith community was unwavering, and she found immense joy in fellowship and worship.
Norma Lee faced life’s challenges with grace and resilience, always trusting in God’s plan. Her unwavering optimism and positive outlook were a source of strength for those around her. Even in her final days, her faith remained steadfast, offering comfort and peace to her loved ones.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness that will continue to inspire us all. Though we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she has been welcomed into the loving embrace of her Savior.
Norma Lee is survived by her eldest daughter Patricia Ann Helton and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Curtis Dolan Toney, her son Howard Leander Toney and daughter Jeannette Marie Aime.
A service to celebrate Norma Lee’s life will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:30am at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Pumpkin Center, 40228 Macedonia Road, Hammond, Louisiana 70403. The visitation will begin at 11:00am.
Interment will follow in the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at the service, or your donation may be mailed to 40227 Adams Road, Hammond, LA 70403 to support the church and continued upkeep of the cemetery that she so dearly and passionately loved.
