TOWN OF KENTWOOD REGULAR MEETING November 7, 2024

Body

The Town Council of the Town of Kentwood, Louisiana held its regular session on Thursday,
November 7, 2024 at 6:00 P.M., at the Kentwood City Hall with Mayor Irma T. Gordon presiding.
Mayor Gordon called the meeting to order following opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.


The roll was called with the following results:
Present: Gary Callihan, Xavier Diamond, Michael Hall, Paul Stewart, Jakoiya Wilkerson
Absent: None.


A public hearing was held at 5:45 P.M. to provide an opportunity for citizens to offer comments on and
discuss a Zoning Change request from Ms. Beverly Cooper.


A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Stewart and unanimously carried
to approve the minutes of last month’s regular meeting.


Financial Reports were emailed to the Council Members.


The Zoning Board unanimously voted to approve the zoning change request from Ms. Beverly Cooper,
property located at 608 C. B. Temple Rd, to be rezoned from A1, Agriculture Districts to R4, Single-
family Residential.


A motion was offered by Councilman Hall, second by Councilwoman Wilkerson and unanimously
carried to accept the recommendation from the zoning board, approving the zoning change request from
Ms. Beverly Cooper, property located at 608 C. B. Temple Rd, to be rezoned from A1, Agriculture
Districts to R4, Single-family Residential.


A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Stewart and unanimously carried
to approve Mayor Gordon to renew the contract with RETC, Inc. (grant consultant) on behalf of the
Town.


A motion was offered by Councilwoman Wilkerson, second by Councilman Callihan and unanimously
carried to approve liquor license renewals for 2025, incomplete applications or applications not
received, will not be approved. The following were approved: 4 Way Quick Stop (KS Petroleum), The
Good Times Daquiris, Market Max, and Wine on Main.


A motion was offered by Councilman Diamond, second by Councilwoman Wilkerson and unanimously
carried to set the minimum bid amount for the Nursing Home to $1.2 million.


Mayor Gordon discussed potential rules and regulations for Re-Naming Streets.


Mayor Gordon also discussed potential rules and regulations for future special events within town limits.


Mayor Gordon gave an update on District #2 and the Town of Kentwood Fire Department’s financial
situation.

Mayor Gordon informed everyone that Dr. Jemison, grant consultant, was able to get us approved for
$300k grant for our North Tangi Parish Recreation Park and a $200K grant for our other parks,
collectively. The Town is working on getting a sewer treatment plant, lighting on baseball field,
bathrooms, bleachers and playground equipment for the Recreation Park. The town and committee will
work on renovations to the bathroom at the Ave F Park. The town and committee will work on the
playground and bathroom at the MLK Park.

A motion was offered by Councilman Hall, second by Councilwoman Wilkerson, and unanimously
carried to adjourn.
