A special public meeting was held at the Village of Tangipahoa City Hall located at 12616 Jackson Street, Tangipahoa, LA 70465 on June 16, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.  Alderwoman Pamela Bean and Alderman Willis Smith are present; Alderman Rodriguez is absent. Mr. Timmy Lemoine from the Louisiana Rural Water Association conducted a rate study of water and sewer. Mr. Timmy encourages the board to increase the water and sewer rates. There were several comments from the citizens about the increase during public input. Upon motion by Alderman Smith and second by Alderwoman Bean, the meeting is adjourned at 6:12 pm.

A public meeting was held at the Village of Tangipahoa City Hall located at 12616 Jackson Street, Tangipahoa, LA 70465 on June 17, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.  Alderwoman Pamela Bean, Alderman Willis Smith, and Alderman Rodriguez are present. Mr. Phil is absent from the amending budget for 2024-2025 and to present the proposed budget for 2025-2026. Upon motion by Alderwoman Bean and seconded by Alderman Smith, the minutes for May 12, 2025, are approved and will be sent to our local journal for publication. Mayor Gray informed the board that the Village has serious sewer issues at the oxidation pond and the main lift station. Mayor Gray presented a resolution for emergency LGAP Funding. There are no public comments for the resolution. Upon motion by Alderwoman Bean and seconded by Alderman Smith the motion is carried. Eslam Odeh is requesting that his property, which is outside the Village of Tangipahoa Corporation Limits, be annexed into the Village of Tangipahoa Corporation Limits. After much discussion about the current conditions of the property, Alderwoman Bean asked Mr. Odeh to refrain from moving additional junk cars on the property that is within the city limits per the Blighted Property Ordinance. Alderwoman Bean motion to postpone the request for the annexation until Mr. Odeh brings proof of ownership of the property. Alderman Smith seconded the motion, which was carried. There is no public input before the vote. Chief Martin states he has no updates for the Tangipahoa Police Department. Alderwoman Bean discussed with the board the long-term effects of renters leaving outstanding balances. Mayor Gray informed the board that it is on her list of items to get the landlords to be responsible for those balances. Upon motion by Alderman Smith and second by Alderwoman Bean, the Village’s official journal will be the Tangi Times for fiscal year 2025-2026. During public comments, Mr. Rickey Coleman states that it is a good suggestion to let the landlords be held accountable for the tenant’s utility bills. It has been an ongoing issue in our community for a long time. Ms. Tracey Cook offers condolences to Mayor Gray regarding the loss of her brother. Ms. Margaret Alexander states she doesn’t have an issue with the increases in water and sewer rates. Mayor Gray continues to inform the board of the ongoing sewer issues and the financial burdens on the Village. Upon the motion of Alderman Smith and seconded by Alderwoman Bean, the meeting is adjourned at 7:52 p.m.

Mr. Phil presented the amended budget for 2024-2025 and the proposed budget for 2025-2026. Upon motion by Alderwoman Bean and seconded by Alderman Smith, the motion is carried to amend the 2024-2025 budget. After much discussion on the proposed budget for fiscal year 2025-2026, Alderman Smith motion to accept the budget, and Alderman Rodriguez seconded the motion, which was carried. There is no public to participate in public comments before the votes. The meeting is adjourned at 6:31 p.m.
