Stephen Paul “Scooter” Rupert

Stephen Paul “Scooter” Rupert sadly passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana, at the age of 78. He was born in New Orleans and lived there most of his life, until Hurricane Katrina when he relocated to Madisonville.

Scooter is the son of the late Walter “Pops” and Edris “Mumsey” Rupert. He was predeceased by his brothers Walter “Doody” (Gale) and Ashton (Hazel) Rupert. He is survived by brothers David (Cathy), Raymond (Celeste), Jon, and his sister Edris “Tootie” Madere (Pierre). Uncle Scooter is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Also surviving Scooter are two very dear lifelong friends – Paul Kinchen and Joe Newman.

Scooter was an auto mechanic working many years for Doody & Hank’s Auto Repair. He also tended bar at the Golden Cue in Gentilly (the “neighborhood”) where he spent many good times with many good friends. Scooter loved fast cars and fast motorcycles (and fast women). He enjoyed wetting a line and catching a few fish with his big brother David. He loved his pets – Frauline and Coco. He was a whiz with puzzles and never met one he couldn’t complete in record time. He also enjoyed watching hummingbirds guzzling at his kitchen window and songbirds grazing in the backyard.

Scooter was a gentle soul with a big smile and a bigger heart, loved by family and all who knew him. He will be missed dearly.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the nursing staff at St. Tammany Hospital and St. Tammany Hospice for their compassion and excellent care of Scooter.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home in Covington, LA, on Friday, August 8, beginning at 10am. A funeral service will follow at 12pm in the chapel.
