TOWN OF AMITE CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
November 6, 2025
The Mayor and City Council of the Town of Amite City, Louisiana came together in
special session on the sixth day of November 2025 at 5:00 p.m. in the meeting room of
City Hall, 212 E. Oak St., Amite, LA 70422.
Mayor Walter Daniels III called the meeting to order and asked City Clerk Jewel McCoy
for roll call.
Council members present:
Mose Guzzardo
Maria Coleman
Kenyetta Richardson
Council members absent:
Mayor Pro-Tem Rose Sumrall
Shirley Core
Others in attendance:
City Manager Mark Kolwe, City Attorney Chuck Reid, Assistant City Attorney Brad
Stevens, Fire Chief J. D. Stevens
Prayer and Pledge
Richardson offered the opening prayer followed by Daniels leading the Pledge of
Allegiance.

1. Mr. Kolwe explained that the town sent out certified letters to owners of the
properties condemned as required by the state.
Mrs. Kimya Cruz, Grant Writer with Bright Day Solutions, gave the following
information:
a. The town will apply for the full $500,000.00 grant.
b. Preference goes to properties that the owner signed the permission form to
have the property demolished.
c. The property will remain with the property owner.
d. Property owners that do not give the town permission to demolish their
properties will need to provide the town with a plan to bring the structure on
their property up to code.
e. The completed grant application must be submitted before December 15,
2025.
f. After grant is approved for the town, bids will need to be taken on each
property for demolition, and all must be inspected for lead and asbestos.
2. Dolly Brumfield, at 415 E. Chestnut St., stated that she did not want the house at
this location torn down. The council agreed to give her until the first of next year
to make repairs to the house.
3. A copy of the grant is available at City Hall for review.
A motion was made by Richardson, seconded by Guzzardo to adjourn. Meeting
adjourned.
