TOWN OF AMITE CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
December 2, 2025
The Mayor and City Council of the Town of Amite City, Louisiana came together on the
second day of December 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the meeting room of City Hall, 212 E. Oak
St., Amite, LA 70422 for a public hearing and regular session.
Declaration
City Clerk Jewel McCoy read the public input statement.
Public Hearing
McCoy called the public hearing to order and asked if anyone would like to make a
comment on the following proposed Ordinances:
ORDINANCE NO. 13-2025
An Ordinance Establishing a 2 ½% Annual Raise
For Amite Chief of Police
Annual Raise to a salary of $90,791.38 effective January 1, 2026
Ordinance No. 14-2025
To Surplus Property and Authorize Sale
Ordinance No. 15-2025
Authorizing Purchase of Immovable Property
419 East Martin Luther King St., Amite, LA
Ordinance No. 16-2025
Amending Water Supply and Distribution
No comments were voiced.
McCoy closed the Public Hearing and turned the gavel over to Mayor Walter Daniels III
for the regular council meeting.

Mayor Daniels called the council meeting to order and asked McCoy for roll call.

Richardson led the evening prayer followed by Guzzardo leading the Pledge of
Allegiance.

Minutes
A motion was made by Guzzardo, seconded by Sumrall to approve the following
minutes:
November 4, 2025 - Regular Council meeting
November 6, 2025 – Special Council meeting
November 19, 2025 – Special Council meeting
Motion passed with no objection.
Financial Statements
A motion was made by Sumrall, seconded by Richardson to approve the following
financial statements:
Budget to actual – October 31, 2025
Cash disbursements – October 31, 2025

Mayor Walter Daniels III
1. Art Council: Art Council President Charley Vance invited everyone to the Marine
Band Jazz Ensemble Concert on December 11, 2025, at 7 pm, at the Amite High
School Auditorium.
2. A motion was made by Sumrall, seconded by Guzzardo to approve Ordinance No.
13-2025 establishing a 2 ½% annual raise for the Chief of Police. A roll call vote
was taken as follows:

NAYS: None, ABSTAIN: None, ABSENT: None

3. A motion was made by Sumrall, seconded by Guzzardo to approve Ordinance No.
14-2025 Surplus Property and Authorize Sale of garbage truck. A roll call vote
was taken as follows:

4. A motion was made by Sumrall, seconded by Core to approve Ordinance No. 15-
2025 Authorizing Purchase of Immovable Property – maintenance building
located at 419 East Martin Luther Kind Street. A roll call vote was taken as
follows:

Council Member Mose Guzzardo
1. Mulberry Street Extension – Kolwe stated that Parish Government accepted the
bid from Warner Construction. Hopefully, this project will begin no later than
June of 2026.
2. Annexation – Kolwe state that he has been calling the office of Becker & Hebert
but have not been able to speak to anyone. He will continue to reach out to Mr.
Hebert.
Guzzardo stated he would like to add to the agenda the approval of a new business. The
roll call vote was as follows:

A motion was made by Sumrall, seconded by Richardson to approve the occupational
license for J & V Elite Tax Services LLC, 1101 W Oak St., Suite 3.
Motion passed with no objection.
Guzzardo commended the town’s water department who had to work on Thanksgiving
Day to repair a water line.
Mayor Pro-Tem Rose Sumrall
1. Police - Chief Francois thanked the council for approving his pay raise, and he
asked all to contact his office if they see something that needs the police
department’s attention.
2. Fire Department – Assistant Chief King stated the fire department was good.
Sumrall stated she would like to add garbage collection to the agenda. The roll call vote
was as follows:
YEAS: Coleman, Core, Guzzardo, Richardson, Sumrall
NAYS: None, ABSTAIN: None, ABSENT: None
Sumrall has received several calls about items outside of the garbage cans not being
picked up. Kolwe said we need to remind people of the correct way of placing items on
the side of the street so Waste Pro will pick it up. Also, he said you can call city hall, and
we will contact Waste Pro to help rectify the problem.
A motion was made by Richardson, seconded by Sumrall to adjourn the meeting.
