TOWN OF KENTWOOD
January 27, 2026
SPECIAL SESSION
The Town Council of the Town of Kentwood, Louisiana met in special session on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 6:00 P.M., at the Kentwood City Hall with Mayor Irma T. Gordon presiding. Mayor Gordon called the meeting to order following opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.
The roll was called with the following results:
Present: Gary Callihan, Xavier Diamond, Michael Hall, and Jakoiya Wilkerson.
Absent: Paul Stewart.
Acting Attorney Charles Reid was not present to be introduced.
A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilwoman Wilkerson and unanimously carried to approve the Emergency purchase of a cemetery plot for Joshua Wigginton (Kentwood) – Section 3, Lot C, Plot 31, in the amount of $1275.
A motion was offered by Councilman Hall, second by Councilman Callihan and unanimously carried to approve the Beer, Liquor, and Tobacco License Renewals for 2026, incomplete applications or applications not received will not be approved.
A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Diamond and unanimously carried to approve the minimum bid amounts on the following Police Department Surplus properties:
2008 Ford Crown Vic VIN:2FAFP71V38X140572 $1,000.00
2009 Chevy Tahoe VIN:1GNEC03059R189091 $1,500.00
2011 Nissan Altima VIN: 1N4AL2AP0BN476716 $1,000.00
A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Diamond and unanimously carried to approve Chief Kazerooni’s recommendation to hire part-time dispatcher, Pamela Newton to a full-time dispatcher, at a rate of $13/hr.
The roll was called with the following votes:
Yays: Callihan, Diamond, and Wilkerson.
Nays: None.
Abstained: Hall.
Absent: Stewart.
A motion was offered by Councilman Hall, second by Councilwoman Wilkerson and unanimously carried to approve Chief Kazerooni’s recommendation to hire Wiley Foster as a full-time police officer, at a rate of $16/hr.
The roll was called with the following votes:
Yays: Callihan, Diamond, Hall, and Wilkerson.
Nays: None.
Abstained: None.
Absent: Stewart.
Mayor Gordon and the Council discussed the importance of water meters for business/commercial customers.
Public Input: Several business owners expressed their concern that the Town should enforce water meters for all customers which include residential customers.
A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Diamond and unanimously carried to continue the discussion of implementing business/commercial customers to get water meters.
A motion was offered by Councilwoman Wilkerson, second by Councilman Callihan and unanimously carried to adjourn the meeting.
