The Village of Tangipahoa
The Village of Tangipahoa Mayor and the Board of Aldermen held a meeting on May
12, 2026, at 6:00 pm, in the meeting room at 12616 Jackson Street. Mayor Gray called
the meeting to order. Municipal Clerk Allicie Briggs established a quorum. Alderman
Smith, Alderman Rodriguez and Alderwoman Bean are present. The adoption of
Ordinance 1 of 2026 Prohibiting Loitering in the Village of Tangipahoa was motioned
by Alderwoman Bean and seconded by Alderwoman Bean the motion is carried,
Alderman Rodriguez was not present during the vote. The adoption of Ordinance 2 of
2026 Adopting and Enforcing Criminal Trespassing was motion by Alderwoman Bean
and seconded by Alderman Smith the motion is carried. Alderman Rodriguez wasn’t
present for the vote. Alderman Smith motion to adopt Resolution to amend the Village
of Tangipahoa’s 1% Sales and Use Tax Ordinance effective July 1, 1985, Alderwoman
Bean second the motion is carried by three yays. Alderwoman Bean motion to approve
the minutes for April 6, 2026, and April 14, 2026, Alderman Smith second the motion
is carried. Elton Lee requested an occupational license for E & D Detailing and Tires
LLC, upon motion by Alderman Smith to grant a conditional license for 90- days based
on Mr. Elton Lee stating he will have the tires removed from the premises in 90-days.
Mr. Lee may return to the board for additional time if he needs additional time to
remove the tires. Mr. Lee is set to return to the board August 11, 2026. Mr. Lee agreed
to the conditions of the license and the motions was followed and second by Alder-
woman Bean, the motion is carried by a vote of three yays. Chief of Police Martin has
no updates for Tangipahoa Police Department. Chief Martin recommends to the board
to accept the resignation of Officer Marvin Smith. Upon Motion by Alderwoman Bean
and seconded by Alderman Smith the motion is carried. The board voiced concerns
about the lack of an officer. Mayor Gray asked the board to approve the following
summer events Popsicle Giveaway, Ice Cream Giveaway and Back to School Supply
Giveaway. Upon motion by Alderwoman Bean and seconded by Alderman Smith the
motion is carried to approve the events. The board discussed changing the elected
Chief of Police Position to an appointed position, after much discussion the board
will gather information on the pros and cons of elected vs appointed. There are no
public comments. Mayor Gray informed the board that the Tangipahoa Water System
grade is an “A.” All of the lift stations are operating. The village is still in the process
of completing the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Beautification Grant Ms. Allicie Briggs is
working with Mr. Spenser Robinson on the project. Upon motion by Alderwoman Bean
and second by Alderman Smith the meeting is adjourned at 7:10 pm.
