TOWN OF INDEPENDENCE
STATE OF LOUISIANA
RESOLUTION NO. 2026-1145
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF INDEPENDENCE TO ADOPT THE 2026
TANGIPAHOA PARISH HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN.
WHEREAS, the Town of Independence recognizes the threats that natural hazards
pose to life, property, infrastructure, and the overall well-being of residents within the
Town of Independence; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Independence participated in the development of the 2026
Tangipahoa Parish Hazard Mitigation Plan in accordance with the Disaster Mitigation
Act of 2000; and
WHEREAS, the plan identifies mitigation goals, strategies, and actions intended to
reduce long-term risk from future hazards and disasters; and
WHEREAS, adoption of the plan demonstrates the Town Council of the Town of
Independence’s commitment to hazard mitigation and risk reduction, and supports
eligibility to apply for certain federal hazard mitigation assistance programs, subject to
applicable program requirements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN
OF INDEPENDENCE, LOUISIANA, THAT:
Section 1. In accordance with The Lawrason Act, the Town of Independence hereby
adopts the 2026 Tangipahoa Parish Hazard Mitigation Plan as the official hazard
mitigation plan for The Town of Independence.
Section 2. The Town of Independence supports continued participation in the
mitigation planning process and implementation of mitigation actions identified in the
plan, as resources and funding allow.
ADOPTED by a vote of 5 in favor, 0 against, and 0 abstaining, this 14th day of July,
2026.
