MARIA CHAMPAGNE

Maria Champagne passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 76 with her two loving daughters at her side.

She was born on Thursday, March 25, 1948, to the late Gloria and John Sokira. She was a resident of Independence, Louisiana.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Karen Champagne Johnston and Lacy Champagne Mills (Jody); grandchildren, Jody Mills, Jr., Richard, Robbie, Nicole and John Johnston; brothers, John (Susan) and Michael Sokira; as well as her nieces and nephews, Jennifer Sokira, Rachel Clark, Bobby Fousch, Lori Samataro, and Terri Carrone.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Champagne; parents, John and Gloria Sokira; and brother, Anton Sokira.

Relatives and friends attended the visitation held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 11:00am and funeral services at 1:00pm Interment followed in Loranger Community Cemetery, Loranger, Louisiana.
