PATRICIA EBERHARDT
Patricia Sticker Holmes Pohl Eberhardt passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at her residence in Hammond, Louisiana, at age 86. She was born on Sunday, February 19, 1939, in Ponchatoula.
Patricia earned a Bachelor’s in Science Education/ Mathematics and Science from Louisiana State University and a Master’s in Education Science, along with 40+ additional hours in Science and Mathematics from Southeastern Louisiana University. She was a teacher/ department head at William Pitcher Jr. High School in Covington from 1974-1980 and at Hammond High School from 1980-1994. She was an instructor of College Algebra at Southeastern Louisiana University from 1980-1989 and National Science Teachers Association, Stennis Space Center, Regional Coordinator of Newest/ Newmast from 1986-2001.
She was a published author with works including State of Louisiana, The Use of the Laser in the Classroom, 1985;
Stennis Space Center Teacher Resource Center, An Open Window (a resource for teachers with activities related to the Hubble Space Telescope), 1987; and Stennis Space Center Teacher Resource Center, Math I, Math II, and Math III (Teacher Resource booklets/ compilation of activities related to space science) 1987.
She had several professional affiliations: The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Council of Presidential Awardees in Mathematics, and the Louisiana Association of Math Teachers.
Her honors include the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching, Outstanding Achievement in Education by the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, and Outstanding Educator by the Louisiana Department of Education. She was also selected as Tangipahoa Parish Outstanding High School Teacher of the Year and selected to participate in the University of Pennsylvania’s Project Excels (Expansion of Computer Education in Learning the Sciences).
Patricia overcame many obstacles after having a severe stroke at the age of 57. Her handicap never held her down, as she learned many new skills using one arm, such as painting watercolor paintings. She and her husband, Bill, traveled the world, enjoying life to its fullest. Her motto was, “Don’t stop, don’t give up, always keep a positive attitude, and seek God’s guidance, and keep smiling!”
Patricia is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Roger Quave; sister- in-law, Brenda Sticker; her special friend Ed Charbonnet; and her long-time caregivers, Dawn Collura and Michelle Neihaus. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Gary and Kimberlyn Eberhardt, Barbara and Chris Cerniauskas, Kelly Pohl and Russell Bland, and Monica and Michael Sullivan; her grandchildren, Jessica Holmes and Schoen Holmes; several step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, family members, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her son, Jeffery L. Holmes; husbands, Norman Pohl and William “Bill” Eberhardt; parents, Gertrude “Gertie” Vining Sticker and Rufus Brevard Sticker, Jr.; brothers, Rufus Kennedy “Ken” Sticker and Nathan “Bunch” Sticker; and sister, Janet Chandler.
Join us for the Celebration of Patricia’s Life at Bedico Baptist Church, 28156 Highway 22, Ponchatoula, Louisiana, on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Visitation starts at 5:00pm, followed by the Memorial Service at 6:00pm. A fellowship meal will follow.
