BRYAN T. MCMAHON
Bryan T. McMahon, 74, the longtime Editor and Publisher of The Ponchatoula Times, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at his home in Ponchatoula, LA. Originally from a rough side of Detroit, Michigan, Mr. McMahon excelled in academics and was active in the performing arts and published books of poetry. He founded three newspapers in Louisiana and lived as a true scholar and modern-day bard. He won the Louisiana Press Association’s top award for investigative journalism, and the Brown Pelican Award, for environmental reporting, among many other awards and recognitions for his prolific newspaper career.
Bryan is survived by his children, Anna Breaux (Lyle), Bliss McMahon (Ben), Brendan B. McMahon (Landis), and Deirdre Margaret McMahon Sanchez (Mariano), grandchildren, Felicity, Patrick, Claire, Anna Maria and Lucas; brother, Mark McMahon, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan; and his son, Ryan McMahon (Anne); and their children Cayden, Connor, Collin of Michigan; as well as multiple Van Antwerp cousins and Frederick in-laws.
Bryan is preceded in death by his loving wife, Terry Ann McMahon (nee Frederick); parents, Bernard Vincent McMahon and HelenAnn McMahon; and brother Terrence McMahon.
Bryan was a proud dual citizen of Ireland and the U.S.A. and founder of the Krewe of Erin Ponchatoula St. Patrick’s Parade. “Wearing of the green” is encouraged and all are welcome to services arranged by Harry McKneely. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, LA 70454, Friday, April 4, 2025, at 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 9:00 am until services begin at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow in Ponchatoula Cemetery, Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
