Doris T. Read passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, at her home in Ponchatoula at the age of 79. She was a native of Metairie and a lifelong resident of Ponchatoula. She spent over 30 years as a trusted legal secretary and proudly served the community as a dedicated notary public. Services will be on Saturday, May 23, at Wilbert Funeral Home in Plaquemine from 1pm-3pm.
She is survived by her three children: Juliette Mc-Donald and her husband, Andrew; David Read and his wife, Kacie; and Ashton Read and his wife, Jessica. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Aaron Read and his wife, Katelyn; Brandon Read and his wife, Daysha; Samantha Connelly and her husband, Ian; Joey Read; and Mary Read; as well as numerous adored great-grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Lorraine Albarado Topham; two brothers, Melvin and Gerald Topham; and two sisters, Martha Topham and Irma Crain.
Incredibly gifted and creative, Doris was a master crafter who excelled at sewing, quilting, crochet, and puzzling. She had a rare knack for any artistic pursuit she set her mind to. Her remarkable talent and love for fabric arts were well known throughout the community, especially during her meaningful years as a member of the Southern Samplers Quilt Guild in Tangipahoa Parish. Her beautiful, handmade creations remain a lasting testament to her bright spirit and endless talent.
