Peter “Pete” Steven Lentini, a man whose kindness and love touched the lives of everyone he met, peacefully departed from this world on June 29, 2024. Born on May 31, 1979, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Pete’s life was a testament to unwavering compassion and selflessness.
Above all, Pete adored his family. His marriage to Chessa Purser Lentini was a bond of deep love, and their four children, Penny Rose, Parkin, Emberly, and Gradyn, were his pride and joy. He reveled in their achievements, never missing a moment to support them in their endeavors, whether cheering at their extracurricular events or cooking breakfast with a smile on Saturday mornings.
Pete’s love extended beyond his immediate family to include his mother, Beverly McCrary Lentini; his brother, Christopher Anthony Lentini (Amanda); and his sister, Jacqueline Lentini Hebert (Lucas). He adored his nephews, Christopher, Cohen, Colt, and Jackson, and his niece, Callie.
Pete was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Christopher Lentini, and his grandparents, Christopher Anthony and Anne Filippazzo Lentini and Grady Ralph and Ruth Karcher McCrary.
Pete embraced life’s simple pleasures, finding joy in every moment. His dedication extended beyond his family to his community and colleagues. As a member of CrossFit, he cherished the camaraderie and pushed himself to excel. In his professional life, Pete’s commitment to service was exemplary. Known for his integrity and leadership, he served with distinction at various agencies, leaving a lasting impact wherever he went.
In 2016, Pete displayed extraordinary bravery during his tenure as a Senior Deputy at the Office of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal. Without hesitation, he ventured into treacherous floodwaters to aid in rescue operations, guiding military vehicles to save stranded citizens. His selflessness and courage were not limited to that heroic moment; Pete consistently went above and beyond, ensuring the safety and well-being of others, often at great personal risk.
Recently, Pete took on the role of Building Inspector for the City of Hammond, where his diligence and dedication shone through. He worked tirelessly to enforce building codes, safeguarding local businesses and ensuring a secure environment for his community to thrive.
Yet, amidst all his achievements, Pete’s greatest source of pride was his family. He cherished every moment with them, eagerly sharing stories about his children and their accomplishments. His presence, marked by his trademark smile, smartwatch, coffee cup in hand, and worn brown work boots, lit up every room he entered.
Pete leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service. His impact on his family, the Hammond community, and throughout Louisiana is profound and enduring. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us all.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home.
