Upon motion by Alderwoman Bean and second by Alderman Rodriguez the motion is carried to adopt Ordinance 4 of 2026 Establishing a maximum speed limit of ten mph on neighborhood streets. Attorney Vanessa Williams gave a review of the land purchase in 2024 Assessment Number 111708 under the past administration. Attorney Williams stated that Mayor Gray would like to inform the citizens on the status of the property. In July of 2021 the town attorney at the time filed a breach of contract and a preliminary injunction the court granted the injunction, however the attorney failed to move forward with the breach of contract. After a lot of research, Attorney Williams found out that Mr. Harley Perry failed to pay several debts and has many judgements against him. The Village of Tangipahoa purchased a debt that Mr. Perry incurred when he sold the property and not the property itself. The property taxes were paid by the town on the property, but the village failed to continue to pay the property taxes. The possible motive for paying the property taxes was to obtain the property through Mr. Perry’s failure to pay the property taxes. The village does not own the property. After much discussion Mayor Gray asked the board to discontinue the pursuit of the land. Upon motion by Alderwoman Bean and second by Alderman Smith the motion is carried. Attorney Williams will give the clerk a file with all this information. Allicie Briggs updated the board on the blighted property several residents have complied with their letters, and a few hasn’t.
