Monthly Council Meeting Minutes

The Village of Tickfaw Council met in a monthly meeting at 5:00pm on September 08, 2026. Mayor Lamonte called the meeting to order, Councilman Fedele, Councilman Galofaro, Councilman Lemay and Attorney Trippi were present. Police Chief DiBenedetto was not in attendance. All present received and reviewed the monthly financial statements. The invocation was done by Mayor Lamonte followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Old Business-

Letter regarding possible blighted property on Oak Street

Attorney Trippi recommended that the council not move forward with sending out the letter. Council Agreed.

Update on Annexation of Woodland Estates of Tickfaw LLC.

Attorney Trippi stated that he is currently still waiting for certification from the Tax Assessor’s office and Register of Voters. Attorney Trippi is anticipating an Annexation Ordinance by next month, if no issues arise.

New Business-

Ron Genco – Newly elected Tangipahoa School Board Superintendent

Mr. Genco introduced himself as the newly elected Tangipahoa School Board Superintendent. He stated that he will take office officially in January 2027.

Mr. Genco spoke about some of the great opportunities the Tangipahoa School System offer such as the Advanced College and Carrer Center located in Independence. Mr. Genco thanked the council for allowing him to speak and asked if anyone needs to reach out with issues, do not hesitate to do so.

John Polito – Candidate for School Board Representative

Was not in attendance.

Ask council to give the mayor permission to purchase Police equipment with grant funding.

Mayor Lamonte explained to the council stating that this is a new requirement given to us by the State Treasury Department to receive the grant funding.

A motion was made to allow the mayor to purchase Police equipment with grant funds by Fedele, Seconded by Galofaro & Votes: 3 Yeas

A motion to Amend the Agenda to add Property Tax Collection was made by Galofaro, Seconded by Lemay & Votes: 3 Yeas

Attorney Trippi informed the council of a new service opportunity that the Tangipahoa Sherrif’s Office sent to the mayor. The Tangipahoa Sherrif’s Office is offering to collect City Property Taxes and distribute a monthly reimbursement to the Village for a one-time yearly fee of $1000.00 paid by the Village.

Attorney Trippi asked that the council make a motion to authorize a resolution to allow the mayor to enter into an agreement or contract with the Tangipahoa Sherrif’s Office for Property Tax Collections.

Mayor Report

Mayor Lamonte announced that there is a new retail business in town. The name of this business is Bayou Millwork and Windows. They are located next to the Dollar General, and he encouraged everyone to go and check them out.

Culverts have been ordered to replace the ones on 4th street as they are needing repair.

Mayor Lamonte also has the Village’s Engineers working on a solution for the Chris Drake Dr. issue.

Mayor Lamonte has had several complaints asking for tree limbs cuttings, he is working with the parish to try and get this accomplished.

Police Chief Report

Police Chief DiBenedetto was not in attendance. Nothing to report.

Attorney Report

Attorney Trippi informed the council that the City Attorney Conference in Baton Rouge is scheduled for October 1st and 2nd, 2026. He is currently unsure if he can attend due to personal matters.
