AN ORDINANCE LEVYING A TAX ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY
WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF PONCHATOULA
FOR THE YEAR 2026
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL of the City of Ponchatoula, in legal session duly convened that the Tax Collector of the City of Ponchatoula, Louisiana is hereby ordered and instructed to assess, levy, and collect for the year 2026 a tax of 16.52 mills on the dollar on assessed valuation of all taxable property, whether real, personal or mixed within the corporate limits of the City of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL of the City of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, during a public meeting held on June 8, 2026, which was conducted in accordance with the open meetings law and the additional requirements of Article VII, Sec. 23(C) of the LA Constitution and LA R.S. 47:1705(B), that the following adjusted millage rates be and they are hereby levied upon the dollar of the assessed valuation of all property subject to ad valorem taxation within said Parish for the year 2026, for the purpose of raising revenue:
General Fund 6.52 mills
Police Department Salaries 6.00 mills
Fire Department Salaries 2.00 mills
Equipment - Fire & Police 2.00 mills
10.00 mills
TOTAL MILLAGE 16.52 mills
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the Assessor of Tangipahoa Parish shall extend upon the assessment roll for the year 2026 the taxes herein levied, and the Tax Collector of the City of Ponchatoula shall collect said taxes in accordance with the law.
A motion was made by Mr. Wright to adopt the ordinance and was duly seconded by Mr. Toomer.
This ordinance has been introduced on May 11, 2026 by Mr. Elstrott notice of public hearing having been published, said public hearing having been held, and been read by the title at a regular meeting of the City Council on June 8, 2026 and called for final passage and having been put to a vote, the vote thereon was as follows:
YEAS: Sandifer, Toomer, Elstrott, Batiste, Wright
NAYS: none
ABSTAIN: none
ABSENT: none
This Ordinance was declared adopted at a meeting on the 9th day of June 2026, at which at least two-thirds of the total membership was present and voting.
