TOWN OF KENTWOOD REGULAR MEETING July 2, 2024

Body

The Town Council of the Town of Kentwood, Louisiana held its regular session on Tuesday, July 2,
2024 at 6:00 P.M., at the Kentwood City Hall with Mayor Irma T. Gordon presiding. Mayor Gordon
called the meeting to order following opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.


The roll was called with the following results:
Present: Gary Callihan, Xavier Diamond, Michael Hall, Paul Stewart, Jakoiya Wilkerson
Absent: None.


A public hearing was held at 5:45 P.M. to provide an opportunity for citizens to offer comments on and
discuss a Zoning Change request from Franklynn M. Davis.


A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Stewart and unanimously carried
to approve minutes of May 28 th special meeting.


A motion was offered by Councilwoman Wilkerson, second by Councilman Hall and unanimously
carried to approve minutes of last month’s regular meeting.


Financial Reports will be submitted to Council Members at a later date.


The Zoning Board unanimously voted to deny the zoning change request from Franklyn A. Davis,
property located at 1207 Martin Luther King, property to be rezoned from R4, Single-family Residential
to C1 Commercial Districts.


A motion was offered by Councilman Diamond, second by Councilman Stewart and unanimously
carried to approve the recommendation from the zoning board to deny the zoning change request from
Franklyn A. Davis, property located at 1207 Martin Luther King, requests property to be rezoned from
R4, Single-family Residential to C1 Commercial Districts.


A motion was offered by Councilman Hall, second by Councilman Callihan and unanimously carried to
approve City Hall’s closure for July 5 th as a holiday, declared by Governor Landry.


A motion was offered by Councilman Hall, second by Councilman Callihan and unanimously carried to
give Mayor Gordon authorization to enter into an agreement with one of the three companies that
presented their proposals for the Emergency Calling System Provider.


Chief Kazerooni gave a one-month update on the Vibe, per recommendation of the Council.


A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilwoman Wilkerson and unanimously
carried to approve Fire Chief Griffith’s recommendation to hire Paul Wyman as a part-time firefighter
for the Town of Kentwood, at $9.75/hour.


A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Hall and unanimously carried to
approve Chief Kazerooni’s recommendation to accept the resignation of Brittany Ricks, effective June
28, 2024.

A motion was offered by Councilwoman Wilkerson, second by Councilman Callihan and unanimously
carried to approve the resolution to adopt the workplan and budget for the Kentwood Downtown
Historic District.


Mr. Ronnie Harrell and Mrs. Antoinette Harrell, from the Museum Committee, gave an update on the
Kentwood Museum.


Mr. Ronnie Harrell and Mr. Christian Mounger, from the Chamber of Commerce, presented the design
of revamping the park by the Community Center, with donations from the Chamber.


A motion was offered by Councilwoman Wilkerson, second by Councilman Callihan, and unanimously
carried to adjourn.
