The Town Council of the Town of Kentwood, Louisiana met in regular session on Thursday, June 6,
2024 at the Kentwood City Hall with Mayor Irma T. Gordon presiding. Mayor Gordon called the
meeting to order following opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance
The roll was called with the following results:
Present: Gary Callihan, Michael Hall, Paul Stewart, Jakoiya Wilkerson
Absent: Xavier Diamond.
A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Stewart and unanimously carried
to approve minutes of May’s regular meeting.
A motion was offered by Councilwoman Wilkerson, second by Councilman Stewart and unanimously
carried to approve minutes of May 6 th ’s special meeting.
Financial Reports will be submitted to Council Members at a later date.
Sealed Bids for the Official Journal were opened. Two bids were received:
The Daily Star - $6.00 per square of 100 words per insertion.
The Tangi Times - $5.75 per square of 100 words or a fraction thereof.
A motion was offered by Councilman Hall, second by Councilman Callihan and unanimously carried to
accept the lowest bid from the Tangi Digest and approve them as our Official Journal for July 2024 –
June 2025.
A motion was offered by Councilwoman Wilkerson, second by Councilman Callihan and unanimously
carried to approve Fire Chief Griffith’s recommendation, accepting the resignation of Firefighter Britton
Graham, effective May 24, 2024.
A motion was offered by Councilman Hall, second by Councilman Stewart and unanimously carried to
accept Fire Chief’s Griffith’s recommendation to hire Tanner Parnell as a full-time firefighter at
$9.75/hour.
A motion was offered by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Hall and unanimously carried to
approve Fire Chief Griffith’s recommendation to hire Hunter Ordoyne as a full-time firefighter at
$9.75/hour.
Dr. Gregory Cole, representative from Yates Development, discussed and requested a 1% tax rate for
McDonald’s.
Mayor Gordon and the Council discussed enforcing the Noise Control Ordinance.
Mayor Gordon and the Council discussed the Curfew Ordinance and looking into increasing the fines.
A motion was made by Councilman Hall, second by Councilwoman Wilkerson and unanimously carried
to table amending the Curfew Ordinance, giving everyone time to review it.
Mayor Gordon discussed the Museum. She informed everyone that the museum is not open because it is
in bad shape. It would take too much money to get it fixed.
A motion was made by Councilman Stewart, second by Councilman Callihan and unanimously carried
to amend the agenda adding the Museum Committee.
A motion was made by Councilman Callihan, second by Councilman Stewart and unanimously carried
to approve the following members up the Museum Committee:
Antoinette Harrell, Christian Mounger, Ronnie Harrell, Cynthia Sibley, Chief Kazerooni, James Rimes,
Councilman Hall, Councilman Stewart, Evelyn Williams, David Sellers, Russell Carter, and William
Lawson.
Mayor Gordon discussed the Town of Kentwood Emergency System Notification and Pricing Update.
Mr. William Lawson requested the Town purchase the signage for the Christmas Festival. A motion was
offered by Councilwoman
Mayor Gordon and the Council discussed the rules, regulations, and insurance verification for Trail
Rides.
A motion was made by Councilman Hall, second by Councilwoman Wilkerson and unanimously carried
to grant a waiver to IAAU (It’s All About Us) Trail ride Association, allowing them to have a trail ride
on July 13th, with the condition of providing liability insurance and the permit application.
Mayor Gordon and the Council discussed submitting a proposal to the Tangipahoa Parish Government
for a Downtown Mainstreet project.
The Chamber of Commerce was absent.
A motion was offered by Councilman Hall, second by Councilman Callihan, and unanimously carried to
adjourn.
